The Moymoy Palaboy Project

March 31st, 2010 § Leave a Comment

I never thought I’d get to see the YouTube sensation that is Moymoy Palaboy perform live.

DSC04719

When Chic told me about their show, I wondered how they’ll be able to perform their YouTube hits live. But these guys are TOO TALENTED! It was awesome how they really know their thing. Their timing was perfect. And it was amazing how they got to memorize all the lyrics and the choreography that goes with it.

DSC04716

But while they are pretty good performers, I do think that they need to brush up more on their “hosting” skills. There were still some dead spots in the program. Their spiels in between numbers were awkward because they seem more comfortable with their lipsynching. They sang live though and I must say they have pretty good voices. It makes me kinda interested to listen to the rest of their album.

My friend Lady was able to go up the stage during their second to the last song. She “sang” WANNABE by the Spice Girls with Moymoy Palaboy and Roadfill.

Despite how tired we were from our earlier adventure that day, Moymoy Palaboy successfully entertained us and made us laugh so hard (especially during the Bohemian Rhapsody performance!!!)

DSC04723 DSC04721

It was another awesome Eleat experience!

After the show, we had dinner with the other VIP’s including Moymoy Palaboy and Roadfill.

DSC04750

Of course we grabbed the chance to take our photos with them!

DSC04754  DSC04752 DSC04753

Many thanks to James and Rod (the men behind Moymoy Palaboy and Roadfill) for graciously allowing us to take photos. Thanks also to Chic and Tito Danny Pabalan for inviting us to the show! What an awesome way to end the day!

okthxbye :)

P.S. I love Roadfill’s hair! I think we have something similar here at home that my sibs use during Halloween! LOL

Frozen Yogurt at Coffee Cat

March 29th, 2010 § Leave a Comment

One of the things that I miss most about Manila is Frozen Yogurt (Red Mango!!!)

So when Coffee Cat brought it to Davao, it was one of the happiest moments in my life!

After having dinner at Cafe Andessa, my barkada and I went to Coffee Cat for our healthy-ish desserts!

DSC04259 DSC04254

While I was already full from the yummy dinner, I couldn’t help but binge on these yogurt goodness. I got a medium sized original frozen yogurt with Strawberries, Special K and Chocolate Syrup. YUM YUM YUM.  Frank ordered a similar one but changed the strawberries to blueberries. (eew. gaya gaya! LOL)

DSC06129 DSC06128

I think Lady got the mango and pineapple with corn flakes. I didn’t get to try it though but it’s all good because I’m not a big fan of pineapples. And I think Chic had the blueberry and peaches? Not sure. We forgot to take pictures!

So anyway, if you haven’t tried frozen yogurt yet, go try it now! It’s really delicious! It has this sour-sweet taste that I’m obsessed about. I also really like the green tea frozen yogurt but they don’t have it already at Coffee Cat. They have Chocolate Yogurt instead. You can mix and match different toppings for your froyo (frozen yogurt) so have fun inventing and creating something that you’ll absolutely love!

And while the Yogo FroYo in Coffee Cat is yum, I still prefer Red Mango’s, or White Hat? Hmm. Hopefully, Red Mango and White Hat will come to Davao when Abreeza opens, yes?

okthxbye :)

Cafe Andessa

March 29th, 2010 § 1 Comment

Who would’ve thought that tucked in the outskirts of town is this cozy little restaurant that serves really yummy food?!

DSC06117

The Place

DSC06118

I would describe the place as “cozy” and “rustic”. The interior is like a renovated farmhouse of some sorts, with the quintessential ceiling beams in full view of the diners.

DSC04230

Unlike in other restaurants, the decor of the place is subtle and sophisticated.

DSC04247

The lighting is awesome! It’s perfect for vain girls like me! And the mirror decor of the place makes it look so much bigger than it really is!

DSC04234

I must say that my favorite thing about the place are the chairs and the sofas with the little throw pillows. It encourages relaxation and gives the place a really “laid back” feel. While I noticed that the other diners looked “loaded”, the ambiance of Cafe Andessa makes you feel anything but uncomfortable.

And oh, before I forget! Lady really loved their tissue holder!

DSC04224

Like the rest of the decor,  it was oozing with cuteness and sophistication. (OZZOM combo right?)

The Food

I was too hungry to take decent photos of the food. I only took the first two while I grabbed the rest from Lady.

DSC04227 DSC04233 DSC06104 DSC06101 DSC06102 DSC06103

We only realized we ordered too much food when they were served! UH-OH. Super pigged out as usual!

For starters, Chic ordered the Taco Salad. It was yum yum yum all the way! Think of it as nachos but without the cheesy sauce. Instead there was beef, lettuce, tomatoes, grated cheese, etc. I loved it!

Chic also ordered the Vegetable Kare-Kare. We thought it would only be vegetables but it was the usual Kare-Kare but with so much vegetables. It was yummy though I don’t like okra. But I prefer Kusina Selera’s version to this one.

Frank ordered the Grilled Rosemary Chops. It was delicious but nothing extraordinary about it. The sauce was interesting though. They served the chops with this sauce made up of apples, some savory vinegar (rosemary?) and carrots.

I decided on the Sisig na Bangus. I’m not a sisig eater, and it was my first Bangus Sisig ever. I found it okay. The bangus was delicious but I didn’t like the eggplant because I don’t eat eggplant (and okra!).

Chic also decided on Chicken Andessa. I loved it. The sauce wasn’t too sweet. However, the chicken were kinda small. I also got the Java rice that went with it. It was yummy and was perfect for the chicken but it was too much to eat with our other orders.

Lady got the Tuna Panga. It was served with a siding of salted eggs and tomato. It was muy delicioso! I think the side dish complemented the tuna panga well, and the panga was well cooked!

We didn’t order desserts anymore. We had Frozen Yogurt at Coffee Cat instead.

The Verdict

Cafe Andessa is a must-try. While it really isn’t that accessible, they have a friendly staff and they serve really good food quickly! Lady especially loved their wash area because instead of toilet paper, they have fresh towels instead. They’re the first restaurant in the city that I know of that practices this. Save the Earth!

okthxbye :)

Open At Your Own Risk

March 23rd, 2010 § Leave a Comment

UGH. No updates lately. My life has been so boring these past few weeks, well, except for that time last Saturday which I would rather not talk about right now. BOOHOO.

And because I’m punishing myself tonight by sleeping early so I could wake up for my very early meeting tomorrow morning, allow me to present you with something to haunt your evening:

DSC04178a

Completely horrible. HAHA. I know right? Did I frighten you? ROFL. Seriously, I want to cover my face and all. But oh-la-la. You’ll know it’s me anyway so WTH. Sayang ang effort ng pag-pose if I’ll only hide this in one of my folders!!!! That was how I looked all of Sunday evening. I didn’t even bother combing my hair or anything. Plus the heels and socks combo. SCARY. HAHA. The reason for this? I’ve been trying to “break in” the shoes. You know, it being new and all. So yeah. So much for new updates. I think I have a few ideas of what I would blog about in the next few days but let us wait and see, yes?

Ok. I’ll stop now. But before that, please do pop up at Shop Telai from time to time this week. I’ll be posting some new (not to mention adorbs!) bags and makes up just perfect for the summer! *so yeah, this is turning out to be an advertisement but who cares?! haha*

okthxbye :)

P.S.

On a totally random note, I’ve been using Ponds Flawless White Night Cream and Under Eye Cream for almost a week now! I only had the guts to buy them because of the super price cut recently (almost 50% off)! So far, I’m loving the effect of both. Will buy the Day Cream in the next few days! ^_^ Ok, so again I am unashamedly plugging our products! Buy it from NCCC, Gaisano, and Victoria Plaza Dept Stores please! HAHAHA. :)

P.P.S.

I haven’t been to SM in a very loooooong time! Any new things there that I should know about? New stores, new collections, new shoes perhaps? HEHE. Ok. I’m really saying good night!

Gone Gaga

March 16th, 2010 § 6 Comments

I don’t know where I’ve been but I’m 5 days late from seeing the new Lady Gaga and Beyonce video! ARGHHH.

There’s only one word for this MV: FIERCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wasn’t much into the song, but the MV is hot and definitely fashion forward! As far a jailhouse rock is concerned, this one killed it. I think I may even like it better than Gwen Stefani and the Harajuku Girls’ version from a past song (which I forgot already!). Actually, I think this is more of a mini-movie series than a music video – It’s 10 minutes long!

“Once you kill a cow, you gotta make a burger.”

Say hello to Sister Gaga: Natali Germanotta!

And now, on to the most exciting part:

A Look Book

March 14th, 2010 § Leave a Comment

image

Because I’m frustrated like that. Here’s a preview of the photos I posted in Dress Playground. Check them out! (P.S. I’m so feeling talaga! ROFL.)

Just for laughs, here’s a rip off of a Lookbook interview that I made for myself.

“It’s the person that carries the clothes.”

Tell us a little bit about yourself and where you live.

I’m a size 14 and only 5’2” so that makes me something like a human potato. I like dressing up and shopping but I don’t get to do them always because of difficulties in financing. Moreover, I live in a place in which I love the whole relaxed and carefree atmosphere but abhorrently lacking of any decent fashion places!

27022010How did you first get interested in fashion and why is it important?

Back in grade school, I live in this little town somewhere north of Davao which seemed to be so out-of-touch with the glamorous world I see in television. I was an eternally curious and adventure seeking child, and so during her weekly trips to the city, I used to ask my mom to bring me back pop-culture related magazines. I blame Seventeen, Meg, Candy, and oh, the Spice Girls, and a lot of other teenage-related books that I read from the stuff my aunt sent me from the US. I don’t know why it’s important though. LOL.

You keep you own blog(s). What motivated you to start blogging?

I maintain a number of blogs. The Telai Show (this blog) is my random blog, Dress Playground is my fashion-related blog, and Shop Telai is my online store. I can’t remember when I really started blogging, but ever since I was already into writing diaries so I guess it was a natural progression that I ventured into blogging when I got acquainted with the world wide web back in High School. I used to have a Tabulas account, and then a Xanga, and then a lot more, but stuck with this one.

How does your size affect your style?

Being fat and short, I have a hard time looking for clothes that fit me comfortably and that would look good on me. However, I never let it ruin my love for clothes and shoes. When I can’t dress myself in clothes that I like, I dress other people up. And when I do dress up, it’s always with confidence because it’s the person that carries the clothes and not the other way around.

How would you describe the fashion scene in Davao?

Seriously, Davao needs work. While I see spot some stylish people from time to time around the city, most of the populace are too generic. It’s trend over personal style in Davao, I think. Many are not very adventures towards styling.

What do you love about living in Davao?

I love how Davao can be a progressive city, yet keep its relatively peace and quiet. It’s so relaxing living here. Traffic is minimal, the people are generally laid back, the cost of living is low, and the city is between a beautiful gulf and a really high and lush mountains so it’s like a year-round vacation in here.

Top 3 places to visit in Davao.

The beach, particularly Samal Island, should be in ever tourists travel destination! Eden Nature Park is also a great place to visit as it offers a view of the city and the Davao gulf from more than a thousand feet up the mountain. And if you’re into the “night life,” you may find yourself enjoying our more relaxing way of partying in Torres.

Describe your personal style.

What style?! In the event that I really do have it, well I guess it would always be COMFORT OVER TRENDS. I just wear anything that’s comfortable to me. I’ve noticed though that I’m into plain and classic styles. If you would notice my outfits, I don’t wear a lot of patterns and textures. No style at all!

Favorite designers and places to shop?05022010

I love watching videos from Fashion Week and from there, I must say my favorite designers are Narciso Rodriguez, Marc Jacobs, and Monique Lhuillier. Alexander McQueen and John Galliano are also favorites. However, I do not own any of their designs YET. I usually shop at the local malls, mostly at the Dept Store. I also buy most of my accessories online.

Favorite color(s)?

Pink, blue, yellow, white and black.

The first thing you look in another person’s outfit is:

Any interesting pieces they have on. Usually, since Davao is such an un-fashionable place generally, I just look at their tops and shoes, and bags.

What do you skimp on?

Jeans and dresses. I never have enough of them. I wish to skimp on food though!

What do you splurge on?

Food and shoes! They don’t go together! I know!

A fashion “rule” you always break:

Don’t follow the “fad”. (Ad Huang) – same goes for me.

A fashion “rule” you never break:

Find the style that suits you. (Ad Huang) – again, I concede to this. I think a lot of people especially here in Davao follow the latest trends but fail to incorporate them to their own personal style that’s why a lot of people here are too generic to look at.

What do you think is the most recent notable trend to appear/reappear, and what are your thoughts on it?

Menswear! I love menswear! It’s sort of a “power play” look when the feminine and masculine designs go together. Also, it’s more casual and dare I say more comfortable. Flat brogues anyone?

What camera do you shoot with, and what is your top photography tip?

I don’t have a camera and I’m not a photographer! FAIL!

What is the most underrated item in menswear and womenswear?

For menswear, shoes and bags/murses; for women, an attention-grabbing jewelry, a pretty handbag, and classic black pumps.

What is your next "must have" purchase?

SHOES! I’m thinking between a Converse classic low cut sneakers or a peep-toe black pumps or, if I can find them, Brogues.

Are there any fashion icons or famous people whose style you admire?

I’m a fan of anything Sex and The City so I’ve always looked up to Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte. And the GOSSIP GIRL CAST. I love their stylist! I also love Rumi Neely and Agyness Deyn. And recently, I’ve discovered a liking for Alexa Chung and Olivia Palermo.

What music are you listening to these days?

I’m a big fan of KPop. But recently, I’ve been playing adding a few vintage songs in my playlist including The Pipette’s Pull Shapes and Coldplay’s The Scientist.

What can’t you live without?

Shoes, my laptop, internet, my cellphone, a pen and paper.

[28122009(007)[8].jpg]What’s on your iPod / bookshelf / DVD player at the moment?

I’ve started re-reading Harry Potter again. I’m on the 4th book already. And I am yet to watch a few Korean Dramas. YES. VERY TEENAGER-Y OF ME.

What is a normal day for you?

My day is pretty boring and routinary. I wake up, check my mail, facebook, and twitter, I get ready for work, I go to work, I go home and stay on the internet all night. I either read a book or watch a movie before going to sleep on some nights. I don’t go out a lot but when I do my best friends and I like to watch a movie and have a nice dinner somewhere. On some weekends, I also go out with a few friends for a drink or clubbing. Really boring stuff.

Next place you want to travel to:

Korea and Japan! I’m a big fan of KPop and I love Japan!

In the year 2015 you will be:

5 years older. Hopefully, I’ll be a manager of some sort for some multi-national company, and by then I’ll be able to afford a few designer stuffs. And oh, have a bigger closet! I’d like to be working abroad by that time, living independently.

What would you say to someone seeking general fashion advice?

Research. Find out what you really like by searching the web – it’s all in there. It will help you discover your own style and will teach you how to go out without looking like a walking fashion faux pas. Also, don’t be afraid to explore. Fashion is a series of trial and error, and once you get the style that your comfortable in, it would be easier in the long run.

How you would spend your day if you knew that it was your last?

I’d probably be going to the beach, go bungee jumping and sky diving with family and friends, eat a lot, watch a romantic comedy and a tear jerker film, have sex (?) LOL, blog, and then lie in bed and read a book until I die!

okthxbye :)

The Pacquaio – Clottey Fight as seen on Twitter

March 14th, 2010 § Leave a Comment

Like every other Sunday, I slept through the morning. I forgot today is THE Pacquaio-Clottey game until I opened my twitter.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I’m not a fan of Pacquaio, but like every other self-serving Filipino, I was rooting for him to win. Not to the extent of paying a few hundred pesos to watch the game live though. IKR? Based on experience, I knew I could rely on Social Media to provide me with the blow by blow (and LIVE!) account of the game – and it didn’t fail me!

OH TWITTER YOU ARE A GODSEND! Here’s a screen cap of a few updates from two local personalities: (Read from bottom)

Pacquiao - Clottey

Thank you to @juliusbabao and @DivinemLee for the super updates! And to @JenniEpperson for the photo from the weigh in. :) I didn’t even have to search for news anymore! It was all there when I woke up! Haha.

So anyway, CONGRATULATIONS MANNY PACQUAIO FOR ANOTHER WIN! Now Jinkee can buy another 10 Hermes Kelly bags in addition to the 10 Birkin’s she bought recently! YAHOO!
